Artist Statement

I create work which reflects my love and reverence for the natural world. Observing and encountering trees, plants and wildlife in my backyard and beyond inspires me. I make porcelain objects for the home, seeking to integrate my observations into the handmade pottery I create. These ideas and imagery are incorporated onto the surface of the clay through the use of hand painting, stamping, carving and sprigs.

Through this work, I attempt to evoke feelings of joy, happiness and calm.

These pieces are intended to be used and enjoyed daily to bring nature inside and inspire those who use them.

Bio

I began exploring clay in high school, and right away I was very curious and excited about this material and its magical malleable properties. So much so, I decided to study art at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I was first introduced to the potter’s wheel when attending my first ceramics course at I.U.P. It was there that I began learning the arduous and exciting process of making functional pottery. I earned a BFA in 2003 and, upon graduation, decided to move to Pittsburgh to learn about the arts community and to continue making pots. In 2005, I began teaching at the Manchester Craftsman’s Guild where I taught ceramics for eight years. In 2010, I created my own home studio and Wolf’s Den Pottery was born.  Around this same time, I switched from cone 10 gas firing and atmospheric firings to cone 6 electric firing. In 2013, I quit teaching full time and started a full-time studio practice creating functional pottery for Wolf’s Den Pottery.

Currently, I sell my work online through my Etsy Shop, as well as through my studio showroom. Please e-mail for an appointment.

I also I sell my work regionally in Pennsylvania and Ohio. I participate in approx. 15 events a year. See a full schedule under the Shop page.
